On March 31, 2010 the White House hosted a forum on workplace flexibility, which was attended by some 100 researchers, government officials, policy experts and business leaders. This forum was notable for several reasons. First, both President Obama and First Lady Michele Obama spoke at the event signifying the Oval Office's strong support for workplace flexibility. Secondly, at the forum a new report on workplace flexibility was released by the Council of Economic Advisors, an agency within the Executive Office of the President and the Council which advises the President on economic policy matters.
This report, entitled Work-Life Balance And The Economics Of Workplace Flexibility, presents an economic perspective on flexible workplace policies and practices including the changes in the American workplace that have increased the need for flexibility in the workplace, the current state of flexible work arrangements in the US and a discussion of the economic benefits of workplace flexibility arrangements.
